Audi, the inventor of TDI, is preparing to launch a diesel offensive in the North American market. The brand with the four rings will introduce the world’s cleanest diesel to the U.S. market in early 2009, almost simultaneous with its introduction in Europe. The 3.0 TDI with its ultra low emission system, which fulfills the world’s most stringent emission standards, will first be offered in the Audi Q7 and then in the new Audi A4 at a later date.
The ultra low emission system ensures that the engine conforms with the limits included in the LEV II Bin 5 standards that apply in all 50 U.S. states. Engine features optimize the combustion process along with engine emissions, while a cleaning system reduces nitrogen oxide exhaust emissions by up to 90%.
The TDI engine features the most successful efficiency technology in the world. Audi began regular production of the engine 19 years ago and since then has continued to extend its technological advantage. Audi has now sold more than 4.5 million cars with TDI engines. The carmaker has also experienced a steady course of growth over the past several years in North America, where the company sees major market potential for its highly modern TDI engines. The low sulfur fuel that powers the engine was introduced nationwide in 2006 – opening up the opportunity for the offensive to begin.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has determined that the United States could conserve more than 500 million barrels of crude oil per year if just one third of all passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were equipped with modern diesel engines. Leading market research companies such as JD Power predict a share of the U.S. market of between 12 and 15 percent for diesel engines – a large increase when compared with the current share of sales of about 4 percent.
Audi is very well equipped to carry out its offensive. The brand with the four rings has a wide range of highly modern TDI engines at its command. They combine muscular power with astonishingly low consumption levels – easily knocking gasoline engines with comparable capacities out of the competition. BMW 5 series
Look at the new 5-Series sedan, developed exclusively for the Chinese market. BMW’s designers stretched its wheelbase up by 140mm or 5.5-inches. The long 5-Series now measures 5,039mm or 198-in. in length with a wheelbase of 3,108mm or 122.4-in
The Chinese 5-Series LWB model is built at BMW’s plant in Shenyang in cooperation with a large number of regional partners.
Chinese buyers that intend to spend of not all, most of their time at the back seat can opt for an array of goodies including four-zone automatic a/c, rear-seat entertainment, a cooling box as well as electrically adjustable sunblinds on the rear side windows and a folding table integrated in the backrest of the front passenger’s seat.
The Chinese BMW 5-Series is offered with 3 straight-six engines, all combined with BMW’s eight-speed automatic transmission.
The entry-level 523Li is powered by a 204HP 2.5-liter unit, the 528Li by a 258HP 3.0-liter engine and the range-topping 535Li by a turbocharged 3.0-liter engine with 306 horsepower.
The new 2011 BMW 5-Series LWB will have its world debut at the 2010 Auto China show that will be held in Beijing from April 25 to May 2.
2010 Buick Regal
GM announced today that the next Buick’s mid-size sedan will be known as Regal. it is rumoured that the US model will be identical to the Chinese market Regal which in turn is based on the European Opel Insignia. These models differ only in styling of the front grille, the shape of the front fog lights and the exterior mirrors.
GM said that even though the Regal name has been out of the market for the past six years it continues to be one of the top Buick nameplates recalled by consumers.
Before entering bankruptcy, the General Motors had planned to replace the Aura with the Opel Insignia.
No word yet when the 2010 Buick Regal will go on sale in the U.S., but buyers should expect to see the new model sometime towards the end of 2010 or early 2011. Engine options will most likely include 4-cylinder turbocharged units as well as a V6.
The Opel Insignia is offered in Europe as a five-door liftback and a station wagon called Sports Tourer.
Maybach 62 Landaulet
Maybach has been released photos its new 62 Landaulet, which will make a world debut at the upcoming Dubai Motor Show. The car is a new semi-convertible version of the 62 saloon that officials will be calling a concept, but a limited production run of just 20 examples is all but confirmed for early next year.
The new model is based on the current Maybach 62 with adopts a sliding roof over the rear compartment. Opening and closing the roof takes 16 seconds.
The car also gets a revised interior with a removable glass panel dividing the front and rear quarters. Appointments in the rear include white leather, piano lacquer and black granite surfaces.
The 62 Landaulet study is powered by an uprated version of the V12 engine from the Maybach 62 S. Thanks to twin turbochargers and water intercooling, the V12 develops a maximum output of 612hp (450 kW) from its 6.0L of displacement. This is continuously available between 4,800 and 5,100rpm, and the engine also delivers its peak torque of 1,000Nm between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm.
2011 Audi A8
Today Audi will perform the world premiere of its next generation A8 sedan at a special event in Miami.
The new A8 is one of the most elegant and sleek proposals in the luxury sedan segment.
In the interior sans the A4-esque instrument panel, owners of the current generation A8 will feel right at home. The Germans do claim that the cabin has been further improved in terms of quality of workmanship as well as materials.
The new 2011 A8 sedan continues to make use of a lightweight aluminum body. The normal wheelbase A8 measures 5,137 mm in length, 1,949 mm in width and 1,460 mm in height, with a 2,992 mm wheelbase.
When the 2011 A8 arrives in European showrooms in early 2010, it will be available with a choice of two engines, a 4.2 FSI and a 4.2 TDI.
The 4.2-liter V8 petrol makes 372HP, accelerating the A8 from zero to 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, and on to an electronically governed top speed of 250km/h.
Audi says that in the EU cycle, the petrol version returns a combined 9.5 lt/100 km.
The 4.2-liter V8 TDI diesel produces 350HP. The V8 diesel accelerates the A8 from rest to 100 km/h (62mph) in just 5.5 seconds.
The two V8 engines will be joined by two six-cylinder diesels shortly after the market launch. The first 3.0-liter V6 TDI diesel makes 250HP the A8 from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in 6.6 seconds while consuming on average 6.6 liters of fuel per 100 km (36 US mpg).
The second variant of the 3.0-liter V6 TDI produces 204HP and will be offered only as a front wheel drive model. It is said to return an average fuel consumption of 6.0 lt/100 km (39 US mpg).
All engine versions will be equipped with a new 8-speed tiptronic system and quattro permanent all-wheel drive. As an option, Audi will offer a dynamic sport differential, which will be standard on the 4.2 TDI quattro.
In the U.S., the 2011 A8 sedan will go on sale in late 2010 and will be offered at launch exclusively with the 372HP 4.2-liter V8 FSI petrol.
Lexus ES 350
Toyota’s luxury division has unveil the facelifted Lexus LS and GS series at the auto sohw in Frankfurt. The new 2010 Lexus ES350 receives some minor cosmetic tweaks in the form of a more prominent grille, reworked headlamps and tail lights, a new front bumper with revised lower intake and integrated fog lamps and chrome body side moldings.
The freshly designed 17-inch alloy wheels with a split five-spoke design and four new exterior colors complete the exterior updates.
In saloon, the 2010 Lexus ES350 gets new steering wheel controls, updated trim choices and driver’s seat memory while the revised center console now offers more storage volume than before.
Also, Japanese automaker updated the audio packages and added a new hard disc drive navigation system to the optional equipment list.
There are no changes under the hood. The facelifted 2010 Lexus ES 350 model will arrive at U.S. dealerships later this month priced from $35,675.
Lexus LS Chauffeur
Already a favourite among CEOs in the city, the top of the range Lexus LS 600h L has been awarded chauffeur car of the year, by The Chauffeur magazine in the highly competitive $100,000 to $200,000 category.
Judged closely against the German flagship saloons from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi, Lexus won the top spot in the toughest category for the most popular vehicles chosen by the chauffeuring industry. Key factors behind the judges’ decision included the Lexus hybrid system which allowed for lower emission and competitive fuel economy, build quality, and the reclining and massaging rear seats which can adapt for shiatsu back and shoulder massages with varying intensity.
Also contributing to the award was the Lexus Chauffeur programme which offers unique finance packages, designated staff within the Lexus Centre network for sales and service, plus access to the loan of a PCO (Public Carriage Office) licenced Lexus enabling chauffeurs to continue working in the event of their own vehicle being off the road for any reason.

The ‘L’ signifies long wheel base over the standard LS 600h saloon and provides extra rear legroom and can also be specified with the rear seat relaxation package. This includes the massage functions mentioned above, independent rear DVD player, fixed centre console with removable table and body temperature sensing climate control.
